We did it! Over 1,000 people stayed up late, woke up early, and took a Moment out of their day to simultaneously celebrate and document international peace around the world. Thanks to all of you who helped make Worldwide Moment 2009 a huge success!
In the first 48 hours since the event we’ve received nearly 1,200 photos from 60 countries. And photos are continuing to stream in every hour (If you took a photo you can submit it at our homepage).
A few stories we’ve received so far:
* A U.S. soldier participated in Afghanistan, while his four year old son participated in Ohio.
* A mother in Sudan embraced her ten year old daughter, while a new mother in The United States held her one month old daughter.
* A man in Shanghai shared a coffee with 20 million people.
* Students in Australia, Indonesia, Iran, Palestine, Qatar, Taiwan, and The United States took a photo simultaneously.
* A man in India held up a sign that read “Peace is not only better than war, but infinitely more arduous”, while a man in The United States held up a sign that read “No matter how loud I scream no one hears me”.
* Meanwhile, this guy from Malaysia submitted an interesting dance video from his Moment. (Note: the video has audio as well.)
* Believe it or not, we even managed to coordinate a simultaneous satellite photo of Earth taken from an EchoStar satellite, thanks to our new friends at Give The World.
With so many photos and stories it will take us a few more days to prepare the new online gallery. So please be patient as we continue to receive and organize all the photos. We will let you know sometime next week when the new online gallery is available.
